By | EL BLOG

Happy New year!!!

It’s been a great year with many great events, festivals, the release of our album Yo Bonita – a culmination of much hard work. We wish you all the best for 2014!

Jazz cafe kicked off with our friends from the North East, Smoove and Turrell with a DJ/PA set.

For our session we were joined by our Russian compadre Adrianov Kasparov on percussion. As usual we had a great time with Scottish Folk dancing to welcome in the new year. Porque no?

The party went on til the early hours courtesy of Dan Le Sac.

Infusion 5th birthday party – Najiri Beach, Dubai

By | EL BLOG

One of the greatest things about a big line up is getting to meet some of your heroes. For Infusion Magazine’s 5th Birthday party, the team put on a very special line up including Cypress Hill, Afrika Bambaataa, Karizma and Moodymann.

Big shout out to Charl and Infusion for putting together a quality event as usual – I know outside the big cities, it’s difficult to put on events with artists that are not the usual mainstreamers. RESPECT!

Spancirfest 2013 – Croatia

By | EL BLOG

We were excited to be invited this year to perform at Spancirfest, a festival that is now in it’s 15th year. Held in the historic town of Varaždin – it’s a huge arts festival spanning 10 days, taking over the entire town.

On the day of the festival it rained but once again – as it does every time, the sky cleared for the Cuban Brothers performance which ended with the whole town square in one huge conga line!!

Big Feastival 2013 – combining 2 things we love! Food and music!

By | EL BLOG

We always look forward to playing Jamie Oliver’s Big Feastival as the Cubanos are all into our food. This year though we rocked it with the help of Jamie on drum and Alex (James of Blur – on whose land the festival is held) on bass.
Have a look at how it went down – and look out for Domenico aka Juan Erection flipping off the stage!!!

British Summer Time #BST in Hyde Park

By | EL BLOG

Look at Archerio’s pengo! Like a real one but only smaller!

From the picture, you’d be forgiven for thinking that we’d returned to our homeland for a special show back in Habana Vieja.

For the last 2 weekends, we did some special shows in Hyde Park entertaining the audience as they enjoyed the best weather that Britain has ever had to offer.

And these shows were SPECIAL – we were playing in between the likes of Temper Trap, Eliza Doolittle, JLS, Jennifer Lopez; warming up for Bon Jovi, The Rolling Stones, Lionel Ritchie! The stage was purpose-built for the Cubans to recreate our own Habana Vieja in the middle of London, complete with palm trees and Cuban style balconies. Joining us on stage were the incredible CSI steel band, Paraiso Samba School, Ruff Diamond dancers and DJ Anton Black of the Notting Hill Carnival Roadshow bringing the flavour of carnival to Hyde Park.

The 2 weeks ended with the whole park singing and dancing along to Lionel Ritchie’s All Night Long – let’s hope the summer doesn’t end just yet!

Buenas Friends!

Being the Cubanos that keep on giving, here is our latest and greatest, brand new music video for our track So Sweet featuring the enchanting first lady of soul, miss Mica Paris!

Taking it back to the hood when it was good is the name of the game in this video, that features yours truly, Miguel, Archerio and Kengo-San, sporting some of our strongest looks!

Watch out for the official release on July 15th, with remixes from Star One and Lack Of Afro, out on Jam City Records.

Gumball 3000 – starting off in Copenhagen

By | EL BLOG

Dudesons at the Gumball. [/caption]Last week, in the midst of the Eurovision song contest (which Denmark won! Congratulations Emmelie de Forest) and the Copenhagen Marathon, we celebrated the start of the 2013 edition of Gumball 2013 which this year will take its participants from Copenhagen, through Scandinavia, Russia, the Baltic states and through, Poland, Austria, Italy and finishing off in Monte Carlo.
It was the Cuban’s first experience of Copenhagen but we loved the vibe immediately – a sort of mixture between Amsterdam, Berlin and a bit of London. As experience Gumballers ourselves, it was also a reunion seeing our old friends from Dirty Sanchez, the Dudesons and of course David Hasselhoff.
DJ Kengosan kicked off the party after the string quartet in the National Opera House, followed by the Cuban Brothers show. Also on the line up was Eve, who took the crowd to another level with her set.
Despite some late night partying (obviously friends) we had to be up for 8am to see the cars start off the rally the next morning all amidst the rain and the marathon! More drivers joined us this morning including Xzibit, Dizzee Rascal and Bun B.

Domain 3rd Birthday Party, Jakarta

By | EL BLOG

The usual suspects!

It’s always pleasure to return to Jakarta! A vibrant city that is dynamic – a constantly changing place with the friendliest people in the world.
So it was with great pleasure that we came to play Domain’s 3rd birthday. The brainchild of Yudha Budhisurya, also the creator of Playground Festival, the bar is a hub for good music in Jakarta. We were invited to attend the birthday ceremony which involved a speech, prayers and a feast of devotional foods – gotta love the Asian culture of doing it traditonal!!
Later on, the party was ON and on a tuesday night too!
Once again, big love to Yudha, Arief and Nazeera and the Domain Crew, Sheila and Citra. Also to the resident DJs Downey (happy birthday) and Reggy who are absolutely amazing!

Keeping it hip hop! Big Wig Festival, Singapore

Miguelitooo Hoooooooooo!!!

Miguelito Hoooooo!!! Photo by Christina Baudin

From past experience, a strictly hip hop festival wouldn’t be a popular proposition anywhere in the world, let alone in Singapore – but here we were in Fort Canning Park, central Singapore, sharing the stage with the mighty Pharoahe Monch, rubbing shoulders with The Pharcyde and throwing down with Akil the MC from Jurassic 5.
The day was forecast rain but the audience was hyped with the hosting antics of Masia One and Lady Leshurr. The show was hyped with the audience rocking out to our album tracks!! RESULT!
Big ups to Andre and Eddie for putting on such a festival on in Singapore. Hats off!! And to the great crew of people that put it together! Shout outs to Tech12, Hydrophonics, Lady Leshurr, DJ Winchester, Akil, Pharcyde and crew, Pharoahe and band. Also special thanks to Gen and Roy for looking after me personally and introducing me to the underground scene here.
