Asia Tour – Jakarta, Bali, Hong Kong

By | EL BLOG | 38,229 Comments

It is always a pleasure to play in Asia and pleasantly surprised that music really has no boundaries and people love to party wherever you are in the world. Also thanks to people such as Yudha who hosted us at the Playground festival now in its 5th year, the music lovers of Jakarta have been well-informed with good music. In fact we played at the first Playground festival back in 2006!

Enough reminiscing!!! The party, despite the rain was off the scale. The punters were not put off and partied til the early hours. We did our thing and due to the humidity which made the stage too slippery to dance on, we took it to the floor in true oldschool fashion where some sexy girl did a routine with us (correct) and some dude just kept on wanting to battle Archerio (not correct). Let him do his thing! DICK!

Afterwards we partied on in Kampus then Stadium. This is the club where you can party non-stop from Thursday night til Monday morning NON-STOP if you so wish it. There’s a place for food, even rooms for sleeping in if you get a bit partied out (or wanting to do naughty things). Alas we had to leave at 11am as we had a flight to catch at 13:30…..

The LOOT

Thanks also to DJ Leno for hooking me up with some excellent Sate Ayam, gado-gado and the best record shopping at Jalan Surabaya.

sate ayam and some amazing soup!

Bali is probably my favourite place in the world. Relax yes, surf yes, party yes, food yes, cheapness yes, nature yes, nice people yes!!!

The gig at Mbargo was again a lot of fun with the local Bboy crew coming down to rep with us. Enough respect!!!! Thanks to Justin and Natalie at Mbargo and Naren repping from KL.

Given it at MBargo

HK never ceases to surprise me at how cheap everything is. It was a food fest every single day! Big up to the shrimp wonton noodle dude across the road from the hotel serving the best noodles in town. Also, if anyone is still arsed enough to be looking for Cazals or Neostyles, head for HK because there’s still plenty knocking around lying around from the 80s. Obviously I picked up the best of the bunch…..

Edinburgh Festival 2010

By | EL BLOG | 22,398 Comments

After a hiatus of 7 years, the Cubans are chuffed to return to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival for a run of shows – this time in the guise of “The Lyin Bitch and the Wardrobe” where Cubans frontman Mike Keat talks about his life through the colourful characters he has met and created in his career. OK, we’ve done the festival every year, a few dates here and there, but it really has been 7 long years since we’ve done a proper run. And at the risk of repeating myself, it’s good to be home!!

Shows run 19:15 – 20:15 every night (except 22nd) of August at the Billiard Rooms in Gilded Balloon. Every Friday night also will be a full Cubans show at Le Monde, 16 George Street.

Cubans at Snowbombing

Cubans at Snowbombing

Snowbombing this year has got to be one of the best yet. Featuring an array of artists from our heroes De La Soul rocking the forest stage with Fatboy Slim, every night saw the stars of the current dance music scene, rock the venues of Mayrhofen.

The Cubans turned it out once again at the Racket Club – although there were pre-show worries about the acoustics in big indoor tennis courts, the worry was dispelled by a speedy sound check and the smiling faces of the crowd as they flowed in from the forest stage. The Cubans were also joined by Miguel’s real nephew JP who had also flown in from Cuba to enjoy the festival.

It all made for another memorable show! Thanks guys!!! Snowbombing rules!!

The New CBs album

By | EL BLOG | 30,438 Comments

Some of you may already have heard the new tracks been played in our shows such as “The Finding” and “Losing You.” Miguel Mantovani aka Mike Keat has been busy in the studio working on a full music album. Mike says of the album “It’s not a trendy album, none of the dubstep stuff, but the music that I love mostly funk, soul and hip hop.  The music features full live instrumentation. It’ll also feature some very special guests.”

Also on board are a host of remixers given the tracks a tweak for the dancefloor. Rumoured so far are A-Skillz, Doorly and DJ Kunto.

Release dates have not been confirmed but this could be ready in time for Summer!!!
